There's
more to Williamsburg than history -- there's Golf (yes, with a
capital G)!
Williamsburg quickly is becoming one of the United
States' top golf destinations. More than a dozen courses
designed by some of the best golf course architects beckon to
duffers, including courses designed by expert golfers such as
Arnold Palmer, Curtis Strange, Jack Nicklaus, and others. You'll
find courses that are challenging yet very playable, with
rolling hills and beautiful woodlands. Many of Williamsburg's
courses have seen golf's greats play here; you should, too.

Here is some information about just a few of the golf courses
available in and around Williamsburg.
Colonial Williamsburg offers you the Golden Horseshoe Golf
Club, which provides golfers with 45 holes of golf with nary
a housing development or shopping center in sight. The course
is, in fact, designated as an Audubon sanctuary. Take advantage
of this course's Gold, Green and the Spotswood (nine holes)
courses, located just south of Williamsburg's Historic Area.
The Kingsmill Resort, which lies on the banks of the
James River, offers golfers courses designed by two-time U.S.
Open champion Curtis Strange, as well as Arnold Palmer, Pete Dye
and Tom Clark. The courses are made of pristine fairways with
greens unmatched, making for an incredible golfing excursion.
Golfers of all levels will thoroughly enjoy swinging clubs here.
Golf where Native Americans once lived: the Kiskiack Golf
Club is located on land where a group of Virginia Algonquian
Indians, the Chickiack, lived under the rule of the Great Chief
Powhatan. The beautiful course is set along a ridge of a natural
bluff and offers golf for all levels. Golf Digest awarded
Kiskiack four stars in its "Places to Play."
Named one of the "Best New Upscale Public Golf Courses" by Golf
Digest when it opened in 1996, the Tradition Golf Club at
Stonehouse continues to offer golfers with superb golf
opportunities -- Golf Digest awarded it 4.5 stars in 2002.
Two golf courses designed by one of the world's best golfers and
one of the nation's best golf architects await at
Williamsburg National. The Jamestown Course was designed by
Jack Nicklaus while architect Tom Clark brought the resort the
new Yorktown Course. Both offer golfers lovely scenery coupled
with fairways and greens challenging yet straight-forward.
Many more courses wait for you in Williamsburg. Just ask
your hosts at one of our Williamsburg Bed and Breakfast
Network members and they'll be happy to recommend a course
or two that meets -- and exceeds -- your expectations.
