You
may think of antiques covered in calico ruffles when you hear
the words “Bed and Breakfast” but the truth is they’ve changed a
lot over the years. The literal idea of renting a bed and
getting breakfast still holds true, but the modern B and B has a
lot more styles…and a lot more amenities.
The architecture also varies
widely by location. You could find a modern loft rental or an
artist’s studio, something with clean lines and a contemporary
design throughout. You’ll also find your modern technology needs
met with Wi-Fi included and iPod docking stations. If you must,
you can find your office needs met with print stations and a
quiet area to take calls.
Bed and breakfasts also have more options for who stays in them.
They aren’t just for couples anymore…bring the kids. Ask about
family friendly options like suites, and the availability of
kid’s cots or cribs. Entertainment for the kids can range from
indoor options like DVD players and a movie library or an
assortment of board games. Depending on the climate of your
destination, you may want to ask about playground equipment
nearby and the availability of bikes.
Don’t forget your furry friends as well. Depending on the B&B
policy, you might find your small dog is just as welcome as you
are. One of the most enjoyable parts of your visit may be
letting your dog enjoy some sights as well.
There are many advantages to staying at a B and B, including the
food, and there are also many B&Bs
with amateur chefs in the kitchen. The breakfast choices have
expanded from your typical bacon and eggs to a wide variety of
cuisine. Many B&Bs try to offer fresh organic food as part of
their menus. You might also find fresh fruits and yogurt
alongside typical breakfast. Another exciting feature –
chocolate bars. And most Bed and Breakfasts want to accommodate
any special dietary needs you may have. Just give them advanced
notification.
